Analyses of Power and Difference

Another area of interest is the analysis of (educational) theories on social power and relations of difference, both at a theoretical and a historical-empirical level.

Decolonial theories and their contribution to educational theory and practice
Recently, my research has focused more extensively on decolonial theorizing to trace its contributions to educational theory and practice. In a joint article project with Kai Neidmann, I analyze the fundamentals of anti-racism critique through the entanglements of racism and political economy in the work of Aníbal Quijano (coloniality of power) and Frantz Fanon (sociogenesis).

Mathilde Vaerting’s (educational) contribution to critiques of power and domination during the Weimar Republic:
In various article projects, I am exploring questions concerning critiques of power and domination in the works of Mathilde Vaerting (1884–1977). Vaerting was an educator, sociologist, and, starting in 1923, the first German female professor of pedagogy. My engagement with her work (also in collaboration with colleagues, including Susann Hofbauer and Eik Gädeke) focuses on her (educational) writings, which offer an intersectional analysis of society and have received little attention in (educational science) research to date.
